IS THERE A BETTER CAMERA THAN THE CANON 7D?
The canon 7D has great looking film quality video, but no mic input…..xlr input….headphone input…I would have to purchase rigs in order to shoot comfortably, ect. Is there a VIDEO CAMERA with the same size CMOS chip (or larger) with video quality to match the 7D?
Actually, the 7D does have a mic input but, I agree that DSLRs are not an optimal solution for video without the use of additional equipment. That said, there is a new, dedicated video camera from Sony that offers interchangeable lenses and an APS-C size sensor that is just a hair larger than that of the 7D. Sony’s newly announced NEX – VG10 accepts Sony’s new E-mount lenses that are also used with the NEX-3 and NEX-5 interchangeable lens compact cameras. And like those cameras, it can also accept Sony’s Alpha-mount lenses with an adapter. The camera is sold with an 18-200mm, optically stabilized lens as standard equipment. Unlike most video capable DSLRs released to date, it offer autofocus while shooting video.
While I own both a Canon 7D and a 5D Mark II, I would very much prefer Sony’s dedicated video solution rather than trying to use my DSLRs for video. In fact, I do plan to buy the Sony NEX-VG10 as my next video camera. The $2000 price places the NEX-VG10 about half-way between a Canon 7D and a 5D Mark II but, by the time your buy a 7D, RedRock Micro video rig and a comparable 18-200mm lens, you’ll spend considerably more than you would buying the NEX-VG10 that comes with a lens and can autofocus while shooting video.
