I was in the market for a new video camera, and one of the hardest decisions to make is what type of media I would be looking for. There are just so many types, sizes, prices, and specs to choose from, but one thing that I knew that I wanted, was a HDD video cam.
Instead of using clunky tapes, or non-price efficient DVDs, it just saves all of the video (or images) that you capture onto a built in hard drive. However, I quickly learned that my other main essential need – compatibility with OS X – was going to be the harder part.
I looked online for any mention of Mac support for some of the cameras I was looking for and was dismayed to find that there was no documented support. But, that didn’t stop me. After a little deeper research, I found out that the Sony DCR-SR42, the Sony camera that I was seriously considering, shot its video into MPEG-2.
Unfortunately, my version of QuickTime did not have an appropriate MPEG-2 codec, so back to Google I went, and I found Apple’s own MPEG-2 codec for Quicktime. I decided that the pros outweighed the cons, so I purchased it, downloaded, and installed. After restarting, I was eager to find out if the codec had worked.
When you connect the camera, it shows up as a similar Hard Disk Drive. It popped right up on my Leopard desktop, complete with all my videos that I had recorded. Just to check that it worked, I used Quicklook (one of my favorite new Leopard features) and sure enough, my video started to play.
However, now that I was actually able to watch the video, I needed a way to more efficiently work with it. So back to Google, yet again, and I found Total Video Converter from Bigasoft Corporation. This piece of software converts video, similar to other pieces of software, but I saw this recommended from a forum thread online. The software can be downloaded from its official site at:

I fired up the software and dragged the MPEG-2 file from the Finder window into the Total Video Converter main window. I went up to File, and chose the option to export to MPEG-4. There are a bunch of different formats that you can export to, but I chose MPEG-4 because for me, that’s the most flexible.
Just a few minutes later, (depending upon the movie size and your machine’s specs) I had imported my video into iTunes and was watching it on my iPod touch. It’s not that difficult to get your hard drive-based video camera working with your Mac, and it definitely makes it much easier to work with. You can start accessing your video and then editing it with iMovie, Final Cut, or any other movie-making software that you desire.

To start the device, please insert a Micro-SD card, then power on the device
u Switch on
Press the power on/ off button once, blue and yellow light turn on, 5 seconds later, the yellow light keeps on, indicating the camera comes to standby mode.
u MP3 player
1) Under standby mode, press power on/off/play button once, yellow light keeps on, blue light blinks, means it is playing the songs.
2) Press power on/off/play button once, yellow and blue light turns on, songs playing pause. Press power on/off/play button once again, playing continues.
3) Press power on/off/play button for some seconds, yellow light keeps on, songs playing pause and the player comes to standby mode.
4) Under playing mode, press FFWD button once, next song will start singing. While pressing the button for some seconds, the song will fast forward.
5) Press PREV button once, last song will sing, press the button for some seconds, the song will fast backward.
6) Press volume increase/video button: under playing mode, press this button once to increase volume.
7) Press volume decrease/photo button: under playing mode, press this button once to decrease volume.
u Recording video & audio
1) Under standby mode, press volume increase/video button once, blue light blinks, it starts to record video.
2) Press the button again, yellow light keeps on, it will begin to save data and back to standby mode.
u Taking photo
3) Under standby mode, press volume decrease/photo button once, yellow and blue light blinks once, a photo is taken, yellow light keeps on and back to standby mode.
u Switch off
Under standby mode, press power on/off/play button for 3 seconds, all lights turn off.
u ResetGood Spy Mini Camera
Under incorrect operation or a certain reason, the device may stop working, at this time, insert the clip into the reset hole to reset, then the device is at power off mode.
Attention: when resetting, donot use too heavy strength.
u Charging
Under power off mode, connect the camera via USB with the charger in the package box, the green light of the charger will turn on. The green light turns off when it is fully charged.
If the device if of low electricity, yellow light flashes 5 times quickly then power off. The system will save the file before power off.
u Playback video
Connect the camera to computer via USB cable and play back video on computer. Please make sure there is the playback software in the computer before connecting.
Attention: donot connect with computer while it is recording video or taking photo.
u Setting time
1) Insert the user manual CD into the computer
2) Open the file: update time tool V2.0
3) Click the file, then the time of the MP3 camera will be synchronous as time of computer
4) If you want to change the time, just adjust the time of computer
l Attention
1) The songs in MP3 camera should be stored in the file named “AUDIO” of the root disk, otherwise the songs cannot be recognized.
2) Without any operation within 1 minute, the product will turn off automatically.
3) If the device is lack of battery while taking video, the system will save the video data first, then shut down automatically.
4) When taking video continually, the system will automatically generate a new video file after each operation.
5) As the device has built-in high-capacity polymer lithium battery, so it has a memory effect .We advise in the first 5 times of usage, charge the battery fully after the battery is out of use, so that the battery can work with its max working hours perfectly.
6) The time of PC recognizing the device is different according to its different system and configuration, so please not operate during recognizing. If the device can’t be recognized, please check your computer’s operation system, device drivers, USB port and the USB cable is normal, and then connect the hardware again.
