How do I turn on the webcam on a Philips Freevents 12NB5800?
I’ve seen previous postings for this question 2 years ago. Those answers don’t work for me.
My laptop runs on Vista. The webcam has worked in the past but now it won’t. I’ve tried starting it up through MSN Messenger and Skype. The wecam screen is blank but it does recognise that there’s a webcam set-up
I followed some other on-line advice and removed the webcam (device) and removed the driver. Then I re-installed everything as advised.
I’m not even sure if it has now given the right name to the integrated Webcam. It’s now called “USB 2.0 UVC PC Camera” (I don’t think that’s what it used to be called) and now I’m not even sure that is the right name.
I can’t even find any official Philps material or official Philips website about this laptop to give me the technical spec (model number) of the integrated webcam. If I knew that, I could at least install the correct driver.
Help please!
Thanks

try to enter this in a web browser, it will give you an automated driver service from philips originally meant to upgrade the storage driver and maybe the firmware.
you can check to see if your cam will work outside of chat, if it does then open chat, hit the webcam option, then go to preferences in the chat to select which device for a webcam. do not run your webcam system software inside the chat client, it should be automatic, so with your cam shut off, turn on the webcam option in chat, then go to preferences and select your source.
i hope it will help
