can i use a 16gb sd memory card in a device that says upto 8gb? would it just use half or not work?
its for a vivitar 850w underwater video camera. It sayes on the box mem card up to 8gb and i already have a 16gb, wondered if it would work ok? its an xmas prezzy thats why i havent just tryed it.
sometime when the device is made the card with that much capacity isnt out yet
if it can read 8gb then two choices
either it will read the 16gb or it wont
there wont be a case where it reads halfway or cause lack of stability
so there is no harm in trying
use the 16gb
if it works it’ll continue to work
if it doesn’t the device doesn’t have the capability to cope with that much storage

Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera turns on quicker than most cameras on market. It is called AEB. Very easy to use with wonderful picture standard. I too was surprised at how quickly battery power disappeared! I find that viewing photographs very quickly drains battery lifespan and should be making an investment in chargeable batteries. Having mentioned that, the view finder is indispensible during bright bright days, and the zoom facility is very inspiring.
This is in no way rated a pro camera. Then Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera actuallygives better results than a 35mm film underwater point and shoot camera. I say this with experience from using those 35mm film underwater disaster cameras but from also working in a photograph lab where I have seen the overwhelming majority of what those cameras produce at water parks and the Caribbean… And the Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera is by far so much better.
Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera is a good choice for a trip to the Bahamas in Aug if you do not need to take 35mm underwater dispensable cameras with you. Airfield xray machines can mess up the film if it’s's in your carry on ( since almost all of those cameras use ISO 800 film ) and that’s the only bags you need to plan on bringing. You are potentially too frightened to try one of those underwater pouches for your first camera ( a Samsung S700 ) thanks to lack of reviews on the pouch-type it would require and you surely worry that if it became ruined you’d be out your fave camera. Vivitar appears to have fit lots of excellent features into this point & shoot Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera.

- Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera supports an external SD memory card in up to 8GBs in size! This was superb for me as I already have masses of this kind of card from my other camera. And this type card is in general cheap compared to other size cards. Just to give you an idea of storage capacity I put a 4gb SD card in the camera and it said I could store 1596 photos at the highest 8.1mp setting OR 1 hour 37 mins and fifteen seconds of video! Obviously, you can do a mix of each if you swap between the modes.
- Vivitar Vivicam 8400 Digital Camera uses AA size batteries. I have been using energizer rechargeables in this and got an honest amount of life from them from STEADY non-stop use. My suggestion would be to use the photo lithium or the rechargables as I know that just like all other digital cameras on the market, that they might probably suck the life out of the less expensive basic alkalines.
