What is the difference between a Cinematographer and a Camera Operator?
Alright so I got into Columbia College Hollywood for TV/Film and I want to be a camera operator for a BIG TV production studio and to film TV shows such as Glee, Meet The Browns, The Ellen DeGeneres show and Brothers & Sisters etc. The college I got accepted has degrees such as Directing, Producing, Cinematography & Editing
The school also has classes like Introduction to TV Production etc
So does it matter if I pick a major in Cinematography if I just want to be a camera operator for Television?
There are degrees, as with everything in life I suppose. A camera operator does all the technical work with the camera, the mounting to the tripod or other device. He / she takes care of the lenses and all related equipment. The cinematographer does the actual shooting, the looking through the view finder for that one special shot. It would be same as you taking someone along to handle all the grunt work while you do the actual shooting – it’s like that.
TV Camera Operator

So you want to be a TV or Movie Camera Operator
