Good camera to go to war with?
I am looking for a quality hand-held, digital camera that is able to withstand a middle-east environment, take sport’s mode pics, and cost under 500 USD. I really need the camera to take AA batteries as that it may be impossible for me to plug it into a charger. While I would like it to be rugged and withstand being mishandled at times, I would like to by something that can also take high quality pics. I like the functions of the fuji s9600, but it is too big for be to carry and use. I would like something that I can take pictures with without drawing everyone’s attention…more the size of a compact. I also really need something that will match (or beat) the sport’s mode of the sony p200. If there is not a GOOD compact that meets these requirements..what is the smallest digital that would come close? I am a troop going back to war for the umpteenth time and any recommendation will be appreciated. If it turns out to be a good camera, I will pass the advice on to many others.
The Olympus Stylus 790 SW is a compact camera and waterproof to 10 feet, shock resistant to short drops and mild impact, and freeze proof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. But, it does not support 2 AA batteries.
