How can I use my Sony Cybershot DSC-S950 as a webcam?
I am interested in using Skype but I have no webcam, I have seen other people around the internet use similar digital cameras as a webcam. I have tried downloading software such as Trackercam but it doesn’t work. I have no audio/video input for my computer and most cables that you can buy cost about as much as a webcam anyways. This camera did come with video output cables.
If you are planning on copying and pasting the same answer to multiple question please make sure you have the correct knowledge/experience first. Also reading the manual most often just gives you the basics, not stuff this specific.
A very capable digital camera like the S950 shouldn’t be relegated to webcam duty. Although the parts seem to be similar, webcams operate at lower specs but improve on transmission of images over the internet connection. The S950 is too much for that.
To be absolutely sure, check the manual. That’s where 99% of questions end up anyway. That’s what a manual is for. Everything specific to your camera is written there. If it’s not in the manual, it’s not in the camera.
There are very few digital cameras that can act as webcams too. If you specifically need that feature, emphasize it to the salesperson before you purchase a camera.
