Why do my pictures print blurry but they are fine on my screen?
I have a Sony DSC-F717 Digital Camera. When I take a picture on it, the image appears fine on the screen and view finder. My printer would print the images blurry, so I canned the computer and just bought a very nice HP. Well, the first picture I print, after it aligned itself, printed exactly the same way. This printer has a 3.5 inch screen and I can see the picture and it looks fine. The pictures actually look Monet-ish. I don’t want to waste money on another piece of equipment and the same thing happen. Does anyone have any ideas?
This is the second printer to do this and they were both new. It is not the printer.
Okay, I really appreciate most of the answers so far, however, I am somewhat savvy in this area. The resolution is at 5 megapix 2064X1080 (or whatever the exact numbers are). I have used this camera and printer for years and it just all of the sudden started to do this.
Your screen is low resolution; it’s like looking at a print that is a 1″ x 2″ print–very tiny. Hence, it looks fine on the screen.
When you actually print, if there’s not sufficient resolution, then you’ll get a pixelated image (the “monet-ish” look you mention).
First, make sure you’re printing the correct full-size file and not just a thumbnail file. It’s possible that you’re printing thumbnail files which are small and have very little resolution. If that’s the case, just print the larger size full-resolution file instead.
If you only have one size of file; it’s possible that your camera resolution settings are set very low. If so, set the resolution settings to the highest setting for your future shots. For these current shots, you may just have to print small, if these files are all you’ve got.
EDIT: Presuming you’ve got the resolution right, then the next thing to check is *how* you’re printing. Are you using some kind of software via computer or are you printing directly off the memory card? If it’s via software/computer, then I would look at the software. If it’s directly off the memory card, then it could be: 1) the setup for the printer; 2) clogged jets on the printer 3) your files themselves/the camera.
To check 3) take the memory card to a computer and view them at 50% and see how the images look on a screen. At 50%, it should give you an idea of how they’ll look in a print. If they look bad at 50%, it’s the camera or camera settings.
