UGH. Having a hard time with decision.
Ok everyone, thanks for your input with my last question..
I have been looking at getting a DSLR camera now and have been researching diligently in order to get the best deal and best camera for my budget…
I have narrowed my decision down to the following:
Canon Digital Rebel XT (8mp) with 28-90 mm kit lens (421.00)
Nikon D40 (6.1 mp) with standard 18-55mm kit lens (458.10)
Sony Alpha A200k (10.1 mp) with 18-70mm kit lens (499.00)
Which camera would you recommend and why? Are the lenses that come with these cameras good for a beginning DSLR photographer with little experience? I will mainly use my camera to take pics of nature, animals, and vacations.
Are these cameras outdated? I am trying to stay within a certain price range (under 600 with taxes and shipping included). So I am having a hard time making a decision with these cameras.
Hi, it’s good to hear that you’re interested in purchasing a new camera and i understand they’re a bit pricey and making a decision can be difficult, but from experience using the Canon XTi, i would recommend getting the XT which is not that different from the XTi. They’re great camera’s and very much worth every penny. I myself am a semi-pro and I use my Rebel to shoot fashion photography and i take mine on all of my vacations. DSLR’s can be very frustrating at first because there are so many functions but once you read your manual, and you get to know your camera, you’ll be in good shape and fall in love with it. The lense that comes with the camera is good and you can always purchase others for it. I have 2 additional lenses, two which are okay, and one which is quick and shoots well for fashion portraiture. I can post some links to show you some shots that i’ve made with my canon…shots from within the past 2 weeks…just to show you the quality of the camera.

Sony Alpha Nex 5 build with so many helpful innovations make it difficult to know where to start. The fresh one is that the Sony NEX series may be the first interchangeable lens digital camera system. The interchangeable lens designed for continuous autofocus and video recording exposure adjustment, where all the components, bodies and lenses, support the feature.The NEX-5 supports 1080i AVCHD video recording.
Responsible for the high quality images, Alpha Nex 5 build with 14-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, and a new Bionz processor is also hard at work.
Alpha Nex 5 hot features are Sweep Panorama, Vehicle High-Dynamic Range shooting, Handheld Twilight, and Anti-motion-blur modes, each of which strategically combine and align several images into one seamless one. It’s incredible stuff. Sony’s also announcing an upcoming upgrade (even before the cameras ship!) that could enable a special 3D Sweep Panorama mode that could work with several as-yet unannounced Bravia TV.
Alpha NEX 5 using a wide, 3-inch LCD with 921k-dot resolution. For easy viewing the super-slim LCD tilts up 80 degrees and down 45 degrees. Shooting in or out of doors is often a snap with TruBlack technology from Sony’s picture frames.
Alpha Nex 5 are not using the previous Alpha mount series. Sony introduced a new E-mount, for which two lenses will ship right away, both as kit lenses. Standard 18-55mm f/3.5-6.3 lens with Optical SteadyShot, and a 16mm f/2.8 pancake lens. Both have an aluminum barrel in brushed gunmetal gray.
An adapter is obtainable for mounting Alpha lenses, but autofocus will be disabled with the NEX cameras. Two converters will also ship for use with the 16mm lens: an Ultra Wide Converter with a 12mm equivalent view, and a Fisheye Converter.
