The HTC HD Mini is run by the Windows Mobile 6.5 and utilises the awesome HTC Sense user interface, the compact design makes it a delight to handle and the 3.2inch HVGA screen hosts capacitive technology. HTC have made the most of the Windows OS by throwing in a Windows Media Player and the HD Mini picks up FM radio thanks to the in-built receiver. A digital camera has been pre-installed for the happy snappers and you can surf the internet thanks to the high speed connectivity and full web browser.
The simple design of the phone follows the same mould of the Desire with the smoothed casing and they have added a soft rubberized back casing, it is compact and slim line, the capacitive screen is extremely responsive and vibrant to say the least, HTC’s clever Sense technology covers the Windows operating systems unfavourable features and is very colourful on the HVGA display. The Windows Marketplace provides HD Mini users with additional applications to play with; you can customize which shortcuts and which applications you have available from your home screen, this means the things you need are always a tap away.
You can synchronize you HD Mini with your e-mail accounts via ActiveSynch, links to your Hotmail, Gmail and Exchange accounts are quite easy to set up and full management is possible. Though the FriendStream feature doesn’t play a part in this model, but social networking fans will be pleased to see the presence of HTC Peep, the personal Twitter client. The e-mail application is pretty cool; it displays your e-mails as virtual pieces of paper and layers them with the most recent on the top of the pile. The HTC HD Mini has IM covered too, MSN/WindowsLive, Google Chat and other trendy providers.
The HD Mini has two pre-installed web browsers; Internet Explorer and Opera, the IE option delivers the all important flash compatibility and the Opera browser supplies you with multi touch functionality, the device utilises web connectivity from 3G and Wi Fi with them both delivering turbo speed connections which are reliable and consistent. The HTC design team have given the HD Mini a microUSB slot for PC synchronization and you can make use of the Bluetooth technology to pair your phone with other compatible devices.
A well equipped 5 mega pixel camera comes with auto focus and flash and it is capable of wide screen capture and video recording, you can video share with YouTube integration and view them just the same. The phones multimedia centre functions pretty well it organises your tunes and has an album art feature to add a splash of colour, the player can handle many types of video format too; videos look very nice on the 3.2inch display and also run pretty smoothly. As with other HTC devices there is an A-GPS and HTC Footprints to stop you from getting lost and Bluetooth technology is in place for wireless device communication.
The HTC HD Mini has the potential to be a very good smartphone, I would put it in the same performance bracket as the Nokia X6 and Sony Ericsson Vivaz and the price tag would be in and around there too. HTC have made the most of the Sense overlays advanced interface as the Windows Mobile OS can be a little clunky and the application based interface can be supplemented with new content via the online market so your user experience will never fail to be a fresh one.
