Microsoft Lifecam VX2000 ‘Not connected to this computer’?
After setting up my vx2000 lifecam with my new computer, i go onto the driver software and it says ‘There is no camera connected to this computer’. The camera works perfectly in other software, such as skype and the webcam in my computer. The microphone works perfectly too, i just can’t get it to work in its own installed software. How can i fix this?
This problems is perhaps caused because Windows is automatically looking the drivers for you. Windows update only looks for the drivers and not the software. What you can try is to uninstall the device driver for your webcam and you can manually disable automatic Windows update for drivers.
After that try to install your lifecam driver again along with your webcam and see if it works as windows will not automatically go on the net to look for drivers or preconfigured drivers.
To disable it go to Start and type gpedit.msc in the Start Search and press Enter. Once Local Group Policy Editor is open navigate to,
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Driver Installation
Now from the right sidebar open the key named “Turn Off Windows Update Device Driver Search Prompt” and select Enabled and click OK.
Now Restart your computer or Log Off and then sign back in.
Now, Unplug the webcam
Uninstall the vx-2000 driver using Control Panel > Uninstall a Program
-Use this guide to completely remove old driver:

Reboot
Install VX2000 driver downloaded from Microsoft Website
Once prompted plug-in the webcam
Hope this will solve your problem.
