Does the VPC-WH1 high-definition video camera (http://sanyo.com/xacti/english/products/vpc_wh1/index.html) record just as good out of water then as in water? Or would it be better to use a normal video camera for out of water?
The camera has water-tight seals and is easy to use in water. Other than that, it will record just as good in or out of the water.
Sanyo XACTI VPC-FH1 HD Camcorder
The Sanyo VPC – FH1 Black Colour SDHC HD Camcorder is another state of the art video camera that brings a new meaning to video recording. Running on a full HD mode of 60fps (frames per second); this compact camcorder captures smooth motion and clearer videos. With Sanyo’s proprietary CMOS technology, the Sanyo VPC FH1 HD 1080p records at full 60 frames per seconds, having the ability to capture bigger frame rates, generating clearer and improved images.
The Sanyo XACTI VPC- FH1 Black Colour HD Camcorder also features 16x Advanced Optical Zoom for video which increases the view into at least 44mm. The photo zoom capability is 10x Optical Zoom with an F=35.7-357mm range (35mm equivalent). Zooming ability sports a 10x optical zoom (photos)/16x optical zoom (video). Another feature is that you can take still photos during playback or even during recording. Still photos taken are good for printing with 8 megapixel resolution which you can still interpolate to up to 12 megapixels.
The Sanyo XACTI VPC- FH1 Black Colour HD Camcorder also features a 12 Subject Face Technology that allows and optimizes focus on the subjects. Taking pictures makes it a breeze with its sequential shooting of up to 12 frames per second. The 3 inch LCD monitor worked out an enjoyable video playback. The VPC-FH1 also includes a slow-motion option that supports recording at up to 600 fps (though at increasingly reduced resolution), employs face recognition to improve focus and exposure, has a 10X optical zoom lens, and records to SDHC cards.
Video is encoded as MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 with AAC audio. Although these are the same codecs used by AVCHD camcorders, Sanyo doesn’t implement the full AVCHD spec. The VPC-FH1′s MPEG-4 files play nicely in the bundled Nero 8 Essentials software, but some editing applications may require first converting the MPEG-4 files to another format.
In fact, this Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1 is one smart-looking camcorder in shiny black with silver accents that extend to the perimeter of the fold-out 3in display. The advanced zoom gives a broader view as it zooms in, meaning more of the scene makes it into the zoom than ever before. The Xacti FH1 is highly portable and is a mere 342g after loading it with battery and memory card. When using a 16GB memory card with the Sanyo FH1, you can expect a maximum of approximately 41 hours of footage (web-UHR mode) or approximately 1.5 hours of HD footage at maximum quality (FULL-HR mode).And not only is the VPC-FH1 cost-efficient; it proved to be fairly fuel-efficient, as well. The camcorder lasted just over 2 hours on a single charge of its battery, outpacing all the more-expensive camcorders in our roundup. Its 122-minute battery life earned it a score of Very Good.
