Guestbooks
Guestbooks are an ideal way of remembering who was present at your wedding. But they no longer have to be the traditional leather tome. A growing number of couples are choosing alternative ways to remind themselves of their big day.
One of the most popular ways of creating a guestbook is through photos. You can do this in a variety of ways. Add a sentence to your invitations asking your guests to bring along a photo of themselves. When they arrive get them to stick into the guestbook with a note beside it. Or if you want to splash out you could get someone to take polaroids of your guests that they can sign. Some photographers now offer a special service doing this with old polaroid cameras for a classier, vintage feel.
If you are keen on the photo idea, why not get your guests to write a message on a board and have their photograph taken while holding it? You could even do this with cheap, disposable cameras, so that your guests can take the photos themselves and you don’t have to hire someone specially for this job.
Alternatively, if you had an engagement shoot, you could frame one of the engagement photos with a large mountboard around it. Ask your guests to sign the board, so that you have something to display on your wall for years to come.
You could always dispense with photos and pens altogether: we have entered the digital age after all. If you are hiring a videographer to catch your wedding on camera, ask them to get your guests to leave you a message for the DVD.
Depending on what your theme is, there are a variety of more unusual methods that you could use. If you’re holding an outdoor or summer wedding, then use available trees. Get guests to write messages on bits of card, then hang them from an obliging branch with some ribbon. If you like this idea but are having an indoor wedding, you can purchase small or fake trees for the same purpose.
If you don’t want a tree but like the idea of using bits of card, why not lay out a whole load of different scraps of paper and different coloured pens. You can then bind or display the resulting coloured notes in any way you wish. An even more artistic option could be to ask your guests to bring along a square piece of fabric, then ask them to sign it. Then sew all the squares together to create a wedding quilt that you and your family can use for years to come.
Some couples may want a more practical alternative. You could ask your guests to sign an object such as a vase. Or you can now buy engraving pens. Get your guests to sign a silver tray or jug with the pen for a truly beautiful ‘guestbook’ that you can bring out on special occasions.
So if you are looking for an alternative way of getting a keepsake of your wedding day, why not try one of these ideas – or come up with your own form of guestbook, based on your specific wedding theme.
