Camera Question for beginner Photographer ..?
I asked this in Photography but only one person answered (thanks fhotoace!)
So my best friend is really into photography. She is turning 18 and we will be graduating in June.
For her birthday I planned on getting her a camera (the film ones, not digital) but I have NO IDEA where to start. I wanted to get her a good lens, camera and tripod (plus film obv.) but am not looking to spend more than $300.00. Unless her mom plans on helping me out.
I was looking at the Nikon Body with 35-70mm f3.5-4.8 Zoom Nikkor lens. (I have no idea what any of that means) LOL It was this one: http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/vi…
Any suggestions?
She is also going to school for photography so I don’t want to spend much and stuff just incase they have certain requirements for the cameras.
Also, is this a good tripod?

That’s wonderful of you to think of getting your friend such a wonderful and thoughtful gift.
If you could talk to her mom, she could find out what requirements the school has for her camera gear. If you cannot find out what gear the school requires, I’d suggest getting her a gift certificate to either Adorama or BHPhotovideo … they’re both reliable and rather reasonably priced dealers.
I can’t say if the tripod is good or not, but.. it does not list a weight that it will support, which is an important issue, when one begins shooting with longer lenses. Also I’m not sure how sturdy the head is, and if the camera would droop. Again, I’d go with the gift certificate, and she’ll be able to get suitabl gear for her schooling.
