Which 35mm bodies will suit the Nikkor AF lenses that came with my D50 (if any)?
I need a 35mm SLR and I’m hoping that there are some Nikon bodies out there that I can use my AF lenses with. I don’t mind if the auto focus doesn’t work I just don’t want to have to buy new lenses for a camera I probably won’t use that often – it’s just for the first year of my photography degree. Thanks : )
Any autofocus Nikon will work 100% with you lenses, however, if they are DX lenses, which likely they are, they will technically work, but because DX lenses are designed for the smaller sensor of your digital camera, they will vignette on film, like this: http://crave.cnet.com/i/bto/20071217/Rob_Gruhl_FX-on-DX_12.6.2007_270x405.jpg
Hmm, that’s actually a pretty neat effect, and you can pick up a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF lens cheap. That will also work on your D50, and give you a nice bright lens for night scenes.
In fact, if you get a manual focus body, or the N2020, N6006, N8008, N8008s, N90, N90s, or the F100 AF bodies (the F4, F5, and F6 are probably too expensive for you, and really too much camera for anyone not a professional), you can use older Nikon manual focus lenses with them and maintain Aperture Priority auto exposure and fully metered manual. The newer, cheaper AF bodies won’t meter with a MF lens, making it about as useful as an old East German camera with a leaky battery stuck in the battery chamber. Also cameras older than an F2 with an earlier meter-prism and older than the Nikon Nikkormat FT3 won’t meter with AF lenses, but you can still stop-down meter, like the old Pentax Spotmatics.
You can get some real nice bargains on some real good Nikon manual focus glass!

Nikon 35mm 1.8G AF-S Lens (Review)
In the market for a great digital camera? Then it may help to do some sifting through the many options by looking at the top 5 best selling items in this category. There are many hot digital cameras on the market now; it does not matter if someone is a novice, hobbyist, or award-winning photographer. There is something for everyone.
The first one that is in the top five spot of the top five best selling cameras is the Canon PowerShot SD1300IS 12.1 MP with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Blue). The blue is a great and glossy looking color. It is lightweight at 4.5 ounces and features a 28 mm wide-angle lens and optical zoom of up to 4 times. There are eighteen predefined settings, and the LCD is a nice 2.7 inches. The resolution is high at 12.1 mega-pixels.
In at number four is the Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. This little number is a wonderful 4.2 mega-pixels and has a three inch screen for extra surety when shooting. There is Touch Live View for movies and taking pictures. There is help available easily on the camera itself. This makes it quite handy when the camera is still being learned as one does not have to search and grab for owner’s manuals.
Number three is the Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS 12.1 MP with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Silver). In silver, this camera has a 28 mm wide-angle lens with 4 times optical zoom. The resolution is a decent number at 12.1 mega-pixels. The screen is great for viewing at 2.7 inches.
Rounding out the competition at spot number two is the Canon SX30IS 14.1MP with 35x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 Inch Wide LCD. It also has a nice 2.7 inch wide screen. There is a 35x wide-angle optical zoom and an Optical Image Stabilizer. There is zoom functioning for video as well.
And at the number one spot of the top five best selling digital cameras is Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch inch LCD. This one is pricier than some, but boasts a wide 3 inch screen and a mega-pixel sensor. Video is amazing with 720p HD and stereo sound capabilities. The wide angle Optical Zoom is 3.8x and the lens is 28 mm.
Sifting through the thousands of choices of digital cameras can be made a little easier and less confusing by looking through these top five best sellers. There are also helpful and easier-to-operate digital cameras for those less technologically savvy, and there are super duper high tech cameras to choose from for those that are ready to snap away for magazines. The screens are amazing, and the capabilities for even the newbie are plentiful.
