does a minolta manual camera 35mm and 50mm lens work with a sigma 100-200 f/45 focus lens?

I just bought a camera at a rumage sale for 15 dollars. It came with a minolta camera (explained above) and a sigma focus and they don’t seem to fit together.. it also came with a flash. I tried to put the sigma and twist it into the minolta camera but its not twisting in — I have to hold it and it seems like something is wrong with the focus. If the question seems complicated a website explaining these kinds of things would be really helpful… btw what kind of film should I get for the camera, where can I buy it and how would I develop it?

Hi Hala,

Here’s a lens mount identification guide, the only one I’ve seen:

http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-99.html

Sigma made that 100-200mm f/4.5 in several different lens mounts, and on some of them they printed the name of the mount on the side of the lens near the mount. Does yours have anything printed there?

If that doesn’t help, you might need to post a good picture of the lens’ mount.

Also — this may have been a screwmount lens (also known as M42, and also known as universal screwmount and Pentax screwmount), which the previous owner used on that Minolta camera with an adapter. You can probably still find adapters to mount an M42 lens on a manual-focus Minolta camera.

Another possibility — Sigma had a short-lived, little-known interchangeable mount system called “YS”. It may be that this is a YS mount lens without it’s Minolta adapter your seller would have once had with it.

Regarding what film to use — you can use any 35mm film, but my favorites were Fujifilm Superia Reala 100 and Kodak Gold 100. If you don’t find them at local drugstores or camera stores, you can get them from B&H:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/shop/330/35mm_Film_35mm_Print.html

For getting it developed, you could just start with the local drugstore. For better quality you could go to the nearest large professional camera store, or if there is not one nearby you can use one by mailorder like this:

Good luck and have fun!

Greg
