Need advice on digital camera purchase. Canon PowerShot A720 IS?
I recently broke my digital camera and I’m looking for a replacement. I read the latest article from Consumer Reports and I really like the Canon PowerShot A720 IS. It seems like a good camera that does a little bit of everything at a great price.
My only concern is that it takes 2 AA batteries. My previous camera had a rechargeable battery and that is a feature I would like to have again. However, I’m willing to compromise if the batteries don’t have to be replaced very often. I don’t want to spend a fortune in batteries or have to carry any extra batteries with me when I want to take photos. Can anyone who owns this camera (or another model that uses batteries) tell me about the battery situation? Or any other useful info?
What you will want to do is add about $20-30 to your budget for a set of 4 NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydrade) rechargeable batteries and a smart charger. They will perform a lot better than disposable alkalines and you will only buy them once for a long life cycle. One set in camera, one in charging. They will not last as long as dedicated rechargeable batteries in some cameras, but you always have a second set (take it with you for long trips), plus if both sets run out, you can always grab a couple of disposables at nearby drug store!
