High Definition Video Cameras?

Hello! I’m curious… I recently bought a Samsung HD camcorder which operates at 1920×1080 and 25p or 60i. What I want to know is what is the main differences between the one I have bought and the kind of thing that George Lucas used to film the last two Star Wars?

I know my camcorder is severely lacking in features in comparison, the footage is compressed and many more things like that, but what’s the difference in the actual image, which is all that matters at the end of the day.

Essentially, what I’m trying to say is that… if Attack of the Clones (For example) was filmed using my Samsung camcorder, but everything else was the same (Same budget, effects, post production, sets) how different would the end result be?

Thanks!

it would not make a lot of difference on a DVD version of the movie that you watch at home. there would be a tremendous difference in the theatrical presentation. first theatrical films are wider than the 16:9 aspect ratio of HDTV. second the sound track has a minimum of 4 elements and generally more. The camcorder at best produces only a stereo mix. The lack of compression allow more precise editing to be done. The movie editor has a frame every 24th second. The MPEG2 compressed Samsung has an I frame every 4th second or less. While this may look adequate, the sound track editing regularly require sub-frame edits. The high motion action sequences on the Samsung will be blurred or jerked because of the severe MPEG2 compression. And finally the consumer version of video has greatly reduce color space resolution, using 4:1:1 samples where as theatrical video needs 4:4:4 samples in order to do the precise green screen effects.
