How can I un-jam the lense of my FujiFilm camera?
Recently, I took my FuijFilm Finepix A500 digital camera to the beach. To cut a long story short, it ended up covered in sand. Initially, I brushed the visible sand off and it worked fine, but later when I turned it on, the lense jammed halfway out and “Zoom Error” flashed up on the screen, additionally the camera made a weird vibrating error noise.
It’s not the best camera ever, but I don’t want to have to buy a new one nor do I particularly want to pay for repairs. Does anyone know anyway I might solve the “Zoom Error” on my probably sand-clogged camera?
Well I would say you might be able to free it up by tapping it against your hand lightly, but that was before I read that you covered it in sand. Most likely there are many grains of sand inside the camera and between the lens parts. I hate to break it to you, but your probably do for a new camera. This problem is not usually fixable even without dumping sand over the camera. If you do purchase a new camera, the Olympus Stylus SW series are waterproof, shockproof, coldproof and dustproof, so that would help eliminate a chance of this happening again. A word to the wise though, avoid taking your camera to the beach unless you can be sure it has a separate bag that is completely protected from sand.
