Buying new Nikon D40?
I have made my decision to buy Nikon D40 with the kit lens.
D40x, Canon 400D are out of budget for me.
I am from Mumbai, india. I am upgrading from Nikon FM10(Film SLR).
As Nikon D40 is available without bill/warranty I need help regarding the following?
1] How to check if the camera is working perfectly?
2] How to check it is genuine?
3] What are the standard accessories come with the D40?
4] What are the other accessories I should by?(UV filter, cleaning system etc)
5] What is the lens diameter of the kit lens? Is it 52 mm?
6] What is the maximum memory card is supported by D40? 4 GB ? Which type(SD or SDHC preferred)? 4GBx1 or 2GBX2 which is preferable? Will 4GB affect the camera performance?
7] Does it support third party external flash? (I have Vivitar 285HV)
8] Any other suggestions from seniors/those using D40/40X are welcome
Is D40 still available with bill/warranty? Has anyone bought it recently in Mumbai, India with bill/warranty?If yes, from where/how?
1) Charge the battery and then using the 18-55mm lens, test all the features (Aperture, shutter speed priority, Program and manual modes). Use the cameras highest resolution and the copy a few files to your computer and look for any hot pixels.
2) Just register the camera on line and if the cameras is not genuine, Nikon will reject it.
3) Camera body, body cap, neckstrap, A/V cord, USB cord, battery and charger, CD’s, manual and warrenty card.
4) You will need a UV filter to protect the front element of your lenses.
5) The 18-55mm lens uses a 55mm filter
6) You will have to check with Nikon to see what SD cards will work on your camera. While I have two 4GB cards, I tend to use 2GB cards the most.
7) Third party flash units do not provide the many features that Nikon SB400, SB600 and SB800′s do
International warranties will have to be discussed with Nikon
