i have a panasonic video camera model no. nv-gs11gn (if that helps) and i want to know how to get the video footage from it onto my pc which is running on vista. Please help I have trieeeeeeeed everything! When I plug it in, it does not pick it up.

The age of high definition video cameras and LCD TV
Everyone desires to capture the interesting, unique and memorable events of the life. This is being achieved with the cameras for a long time now. From the times when the cameras used to click the black and white photos to the time when these are clicking the coloured high resolution photos, cameras have definitely travelled a long technological distance. And, it is not just the snap shots but also the full high definition video recordings which the modern day video cameras, or call them camcorders are capable of doing.
The high definition quality is achieved at 2-3 mega pixel resolutions of the cameras and most of the high LCD TV or monitors may not be supporting more than this resolution. So, you do not actually need more than 3 MP video cameras for ‘high definition’ shooting and viewing of the videos. It is the resolution which makes a display or recording device of high-definition calibre. A full HD is achieved at the resolution levels of 1920×1080 pixels. Therefore, having a video or image captured on the DVD does not make it HD in nature. It only makes it optical in nature.
When you are looking the find a HD camera from a reputed manufacturer like Panasonic, you must see 720i or 1080p or HD etched on it. There are two HD variants currently available. One is the HDV which takes the images in the 1440 pixel resolution but it stretches the video to 1920 pixels level. Therefore, these have to be compressed using the well known MPEG-2 video compression technology. The HDV is the old format. The new one is the AVCHD, or the advanced video codec high definition, which makes use of even more advanced compression technology called MPEG-4 that creates even smaller files in the compressed format. Editing these compressed files is not easy. You are required to have a compatible video editing program for this purpose of taking care of the editing of the AVCHD files. So, if you are going to buy a Panasonic HD LCD TV, you must be aware of its ability to stream the HD videos.
Digital video cameras are essentially of two types: point and shoot and the SLRs. The SLR camera, also called the single-lens reflex camera, is the more advanced of the two. The body and the lens of the camera are available separately. You might have to do the settings manually to define the parameters of the photo shoot or video recording. These are used by professional photographers and are costlier to purchase. A SLR camera uses a single lens to view and capture the image. The point and shoot ones are easier to use and these do not require manual intervention. The focus, light and other adjustments are automatic. Both of these types of cameras could be capable of achieving the high definition images and videos.
With this basic understanding of the difference between the types of cameras and video cameras and their compatibility with the TVs or other display devices, things will become easier to understand when to go to buy these products
