When I put my Micro SD Card into the adapter and insert it into the Digital Camera DS card slot, it says…?

It says memory card error, and it says memory card locked. normal?

Is the lock switch on the SD adapter in the correct position?

http://www.gameyeeeah.com/kingston-microsd-transflash-2gb-made-in-japan-p-705.html

As in the photo, the switch should be in the up position.

If the card came from another device, you might need to reformat it before your camera will allow you to use it.

Digital Camera Memory Cards Ds

Most cameras now use memory cards for storage. SDHC cards are by far the most common, and here’s what you should know so you can make the best choice for your needs.

When selecting a card there are at least two important things to consider: speed and size.

Speed is important because when you take a photo or capture video, the images are not placed directly on the memory card. Instead, the image data gets passed to a temporary storage area in the camera called a buffer. Then it gets copied to the memory card. Each camera has a maximum amount of data or images that can be stored in the buffer. Once this is filled up, the camera cannot capture any more images until it moves data out of the buffer. If you are creating a video, you might see that your recorded video is not smooth on playback, and that it looks like it is skipping frames. On a still camera, you may notice a longer wait time before the camera is ready for the next shot.

With a faster memory card, the images are copied from the buffer onto the card more quickly, so there is less chance of filling up the buffer. Essentially a faster card can reduce (or eliminate) wait time between photos and allow for smoother video capture.

Knowing this makes it more clear why higher speed cards are often a better choice.

There are four speed classifications for SDHC cards: 2, 4, 6 and 10.

  • Class 2 is good for data storage, and standard definition (SD) video.
  • Class 4 and Class 6 are good for HD and full HD video recording.
  • Class 10 is best for full HD video and HD rapid still recording.

Personally, I’ve found that class 6 works very well for HD video shot with a typical consumer video camera. Image capture is quick and playback is smooth without any ‘dropped’ frames.

Size (capacity)

SDHC cards range in size from 2 GB to 32 GB. A larger capacity card allows you to capture more photos or video. But how much do you need? Each person’s requirements are unique, but generally 4-8 GB seems sufficient for most people. An 8GB card will hold more than 2 hours of HD video shot at 30 fps (frames per second). If you’re shooting still images, it would hold about 3,000 10 megapixel photos in fine mode.

However, if you are going on vacation, you may want to consider taking multiple cards or a higher capacity card if you will be unable to occasionally download your video and images to a computer.

A final thing that is worth considering is the manufacturer and any potential warranty. SDHC memory cards can last about 10 years, so it could be worth getting a card from a reputable manufacturer with a longer warranty.
