Currently the following are being discussed:-
1) ID Cards with central database. RF chips in cards detectable by remote scanners up to 30 metres away. Central database links Police, benefits, passport. May be used by commercial concerns. What about people selling database information illegally? May replace credit cards, passport, driving license. May lead to cashless society? Biometrics too fallible (fingerprints damaged/abraded/eroded. Eye conditions interfere with retinal scan). Maybe subdermal chips instead?
2) National Road Charging. Location of all vehicles recorded constantly. Allows vehicles to be tracked. Speed of vehicles also automatically calculated so “speed camera in the sky?”
3) Intelligent Speed Signs. Speed limiter mounted in car. Passing a maximum speed sign triggers device and sets maximum speed. Police can also use them to slow/stop car remotely.
What think you to these?
ID cards won’t work. Australia uses it as does spain and they both have much higher recorded rates of ID theft. Spain still had terrorist attacks so it won’t prevent terrorism. It won’t prevent illegal immigration because they have to catch them in the first place.
The other 2 are just ways of getting more money.
