A digital video camera works on the basis of capturing visual information from the vicinity and converting it into binary information. Earlier, the video camera worked by means of capturing this visual information as magnetic patterns on a tape. However, making copies of the information usually resulted in loss of data and resultant poorer picture quality. The analogue form of recording has got replaced by digital recording of information, in this digital age.
The digital camera has got transformed into a camcorder, as a compact handheld device. The magnetic tape or storage media has got transformed into internal flash memory, hard drive and SD card. All these gadgets work on the principle of capturing light through Charged Couple Devices (CCD), where the built-in sensor captures light patters or ambient surroundings and convert them into electric signals, which henceforth get converted into binary information of 0s & 1s. There are numerous brands today, manufacturing digital video camera or camcorder – which include Samsung, Canon, Casio, Kodak, Panasonic among others. Some happen to be in the budget range and others in the high-end range. All this classification mainly depends on the final image clarity; with some video camera have built-in intelligent software, able to analyse the ambient conditions and optimise itself to create the best moving image quality. This categorisation is marked on the video camera devices, by the amount of pixels the video camera is able to capture – through the built-in sensor. Higher the pixel, better is sensor the ability of the sensor to capture voluminous amount of data from the surroundings, resulting in better image clarity. An image with a 2MB size would have far better clarity and details, when compared to an image with 1MB capacity.
When buying a video camera, you would have to make the choice, of which gadget will best suit your overall purpose. For home videos and video-clips of your outings – a mid-range camera would suffice. However, for a serious/ professional video-grapher would need a video camera with high-pixel range and accessories like tripod and built-in features into the camera like image stabilization etc. A video camera lets you relieve your most memorable moments of your life – all thanks to digital technology.
