Does using flash help reduce noise, when using superzoom non-(D)SLR camera indoors?
Hi! I’ve been posting all sort of questions lately regarding “good” superzooms and megazooms, non-(D)SLR digital cameras…I kept getting answer that they WILL NOT give satisfying results…I DO know that…But I am not prepared to step into SLR area yet…So, I am after solution to lower qualilty photographs produced indoors by non-(D)SLRs… Since lower amount of light is responsible for that kind of bad results, would USING A FLASH, the EXTERNAL one, help reduce noise by increasing amount of light in the hall…Take a look at these photos, as they can give you an idea under what kind of circumstances I will be taking photos…

I think of buying Canon SX10 IS, as it produces better images than SX1 IS, and mounting flash gun to, hopefully, compensate for the lower amount of light…Thanks a lot for your time and thinking and typing…
Hi
The amount of noise is really dependent on ISO and Aperture and Shutter Speed. The higher the ISO the more noise. You need a higher ISO if shoooting in dim light. You need a wider aperture if shooting in dim light. You need a slower shutter spped too. All three co-exist and you can change any to match another. Till you get the best result. Adding a Flash means that you don’t have to increase these variables. So in theory Noise levels will be kept down. However, the quality of the picture may be compromised as you will not get a true realistic representation. So if its less noise, less quality, then yes flash will help. If its more noise, better quality then it won’t. For your project I’d recommend flash.
Good luck Sab
