How do you scan pictures onto your computer?
So, I was just wondering how you scan things onto your computer. If I press the scan button on the printer, it doesn’t scan onto the computer. There used to be an application or button somewhere on my laptop, but I can’t seem to find it ANYWHERE. I believe it was in the Scanners and Cameras application thing on my computer, but now it just pops up with something telling me what type of scanner I have.
As you can tell, I’m completely computer-application illiterate. I can do pretty much anything and everything else on the computer except scan. How idiotic is that???
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop (1525, does that mean anything?) and a Canon MP210 Printer and Scanner combo.

We have one of those all-in-one printer/scanner/fax devices, and also a regular scanner that just scans. In both cases there is a scanner program that you have to run from the computer. There’s a ‘scan’ button on both gizmos but I’ve never been able to get it to work either. The all-in-one has a button to make it scan and print, like a copier, and that works.
Look for the program on your computer. If it’s not there, you have to install it (or re-install it). If you don’t have the disk, you can find the program on Canon’s website. You need two things: (1) the scanner driver that connects the scanner to the computer and (2) an actual scanning program or ‘wizard’.
Normally you run the program, it ‘wakes up’ the scanner and does a preview scan so you can see what part of the area you actually want to scan. You define the area, you set the resolution and color you want, then hit a button on the screen called ‘scan’ and it scans it.
