Which Canon camera is the best for magazine or commercial photograph, 5D, 7D, or what?

Which Camera will do best for commercial studio photograph?

Editorial photography doesn’t need much in the way of a camera since the resolution when the photos are printed is so low, from 80 to 150 DPI before the images are screened.

My friend Max uses a Nikon D40 when he shoots with his long lens at NBA games (he uses his D3s’s when using his shorter lenses.

Here is the quality he gets from his D40 when shooting action shots.

Good enough?

Now for shooting products in-studio, traditionally, larger format cameras were used, like a 4×5 view camera or medium format camera like the Mamiya 6×7 or Hasselblad 6×6. We have recently found ourselves in a place where a good digital camera can nearly meet the specifications for studio photography.

Until a couple of years ago, we had to rely on leasing a nearly $40,000 Hasselblad with digital back for our digital studio work. With the advent of the Nikon D3x, all that has changed. A relatively small DSLR can do what only the big boys could do a few years go.

I do not know any studio photographers in the Phoenix area that use the Canon 1Ds, Mark III in their studio, but I am sure there are some. It would be the choice for a studio camera if your system is based upon a Canon camera.

Here is a link to the top 100 or so DSLR’s Any of the say top twenty of those cameras will do very well under studio shooting conditions.
