Canon A610/A620: Formatting the memory card

Canon Camera Format Card

How To Recover Lost Image from Canon Cameras

Digital cameras allow a user to experiment freely with a whole lot of features. They use memory cards, thus a user wastes less time in changing the film of the camera etc. The main advantage is the fact that a lot of images can be stored on them. More image storage means more images can be lost!! Accidental deletion could leave a person heartbroken and wishing that he/she never used a digicam in the first place!!! Where technology gives us a curse, it also gives a boon: use an image recovery software to recover lost photos.

Just imagine, you just bought a new Canon 50D, you then click photos of your loved ones on a special occasion. When you try to load the pictures on your computer, you get a message saying your card is empty!!!

You would be scandalized at this point, not to forget how confusing it can be when you know you have taken tons of photos and not 1 is on the card!!

One reason for this could have been that, unknown to you, the camera was in the “Shoot Without a Card” Mode.

When they were first launched, these cameras needed a memory card to even be tested. Canon came out with a solution to this funny problem—Shoot Without a Card” Mode. With canon cameras you can now test the camera without a memory card inserted. This means you can shoot pictures just as you would with a card and then view them just like it would with the card inserted.

So after reading that anyone would think, “great so I don’t need to buy a memory card for my camera right??” Wrong!! The camera does all it’s other functions normally in this mode, except one—saving your pictures!!! The problem is not with which pictures are being saved and which aren’t, the problem is that no pictures get saved and added to it is the fact that most users are not even aware of why this happens.

The other reason for this problem is that, there may have been some problem in the connection between the card and the computer. In this case, instead of straightaway losing hope, try using an image recovery software and recover lost photos. The software scans the card and salvages all the photos on it.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is an example of the above type of software. It is available in two versions, Full and Trial. You can use the trial to check which deleted photos can be recovered and then the full version to actually recover them. The software supports JPEG, GIF, TIFF, AVI etc file formats.

Tips and Steps to Recover Formatted Photos?

It’s a common problem that you mistakenly format your camera memory card. And most cameras provide you an option of “format” to delete all your photos. Now you must be anxious to search on the internet: how can I recover formatted photos?

In a matter of fact, most digital cameras these days DO NOT delete photos permanently from your memory card (SD card) when you delete photos using the Format button. So you don’t need to be too worried whether you’re using a Nikon, Sony or Canon camera, you have a good chance to recover formatted photos.

But there’s one thing you should pay attention to. This is what happened to my friend Rachel. She went to Paris this summer and took a lot of wonderful photos. Since she’s using a new camera and not so familiar with its operation, she accidentally formatted its SD card. All the photos are done. She’s searching for ways to recover the formatted photos but meanwhile she’s still using this camera and the same memory card. Then I told her this is very wrong because new photos will overwrite the space where the old ones are located. Then it appears that she can just recover parts of the photos in Paris, and some of which are in complete.

Although Rachel’s recovery experience is not quite successful, we can still learn the steps. So now I will give you a step to step guide about how to recover formatted photos.

How to recover formatted photos?

The best way to recover formatted photos is very simple, by rely on some format recovery software or photo recovery software.

If you are using Window OS, try Wondershare Photo Recovery. This photo recovery program can recover photos, videos and music. Preview function allows you to free scan the device to seek for lost items.

If you are using Mac OS, then turn to Wondershare Photo Recovery for Mac. This is the Mac version which can recover lost photos, videos and music from hard drive or iPod under Macintosh platforms.

Here are steps you may refer to with Wondershare Photo Recovery to recover your formatted photos from camera memory card.

Steps 1:
Use a card reader to connect your formatted camera memory card to a computer and make sure where it is located. Download and install the free version of this photo recovery software. Don’t install it on the memory card on which you want to recover formatted photos.
step 2:
Start Wondershare Photo Recovery, find the camera memory card you want to recover on the top of the interface, select the file types (all, photo, music, video) and then click “Start Scan” to start the automatic scanning process. After a few minutes, you will get a list of all recoverable photos on your memory card. Preview the found photos to see if your formatted ones are there. Then register to get an activation code of the photo recovery program. Choose the ones you want to recover and click “Recover”.
Step 3:
Select a folder to store the recovered photos. Remember don’t store them to the card on which you recover formatted photos.

Tips of Recover formatted photos

Wondershare Photo Recovery can recover formatted photos but only limited under Windows platforms. If you are using Mac operation system and need to recover formatted photos and videos, turn to Wondershare Photo Recovery for Mac. But no matter what operation system you are using, before the formatted photos are recovered, put the camera in safe place and do not take more photos in case the formatted photo data are overwritten.
