Is pentax inferior to canon,nikon, and other big camera brands?
I found the quality of my pentax to be so-so. It was a cheap DSLR, the pentax k-m.
It had good price and good specs but I believe the reason why it does is because the quality of the camera itself is inferior. The lcd screen is pretty low-grade and has collected dust inside it.The viewfinder has dirt in it and cannot be removed.Not to mention everytime I travel i find splotches when i take pics and i have to clean it all the time. The mirror locks up when sensor cleaning. The images are usually under or overexposed , never bright enough I find.underexposed. You usually have to digitally edit the photos to make them look just right.pentax feels rugged but I believe the brand has down too much cost cutting. hence no lithium ion battery, bad lcd screen, picture quality so-so.
what camera should i get for my next purchase as of now i am stuck with my pentax.

Pentax is a big brand, believe or not. It just doesn’t have the same multi-million dollar budget for advertisement campaigns like Canon and Nikon. It is one of the most solidly built brands since they started making cameras before WWII. IT is still highly recognized by the most experienced professional photographers.
Maintenance and upkeep of the camera is the owner’s responsibility. The camera will not be able to avoid getting dirty if subjected to such conditions. As for the mirror, if it doesn’t lock up, how can you access the sensor? Lots of time, internal dust is user induced.
Image quality is also the responsibility of the photographer. The camera is just a tool. This is the age of digital photography. If you got it wrong the first time, adjust and retake. Picture quality is a reflection of the photographer’s level of skill. You must know what you are doing to be able to get beautiful pictures with a dSLR, any dSLR.
The K-m is an entry-level model. Yes, it has its own share of cost cutting. The battery however is the same even with the high end models. There are optional Pentax rechargeable battery accessories but I personally prefer using higher mAh rated rechargeable AAs as most other Pentaxians appreciate the variety of choices when it comes to power source.
You just have to be more careful with your equipment and learn how to use them properly. All dSLRs are basically the same. It’s all up to you.
