Is a hot/dead pixel worth exchanging a camera?
I bought it two weeks ago. I’d have to pay 30 dollars to mail it back to cameta camera. It’s a very prominent dead pixel. It’s always in the same place. Is there any way I can shut off that pixel myself?
Here’s a sample. It’s on my dogs rear end.

Usually you can map the dead pixel out with the help of the camera maker over the phone.
My guess if this is not a camera used professionally, that mapping may be a less expensive way to go.
From http://www.pixelfixer.org/faq.html
Which do you have?
Hot pixels are bright spots that appear in your images. They are caused by photosites on your camera’s sensor that have a higher rate of charge leakage than the surrounding photosites. They will tend to become more noticeable if your sensor is warm, or if you use a high ISO setting, or a slow shutter speed.
Stuck pixels are similar to hot pixels, but they are permanently “stuck” at the brightest possible value regardless of what exposure settings you use.
Dead pixels are pixels that always dark, regardless of what exposure settings are used.
This site should help you in your dilemma.
