Camera Viewfinder Magnifier
viewfinder on cameras?
Hi, I have recently purchased a fuji finepix s6500fd camera, and after looking through the viewfinder (not the lcd one)have trouble viewing things at a distance, is there a gadget on the market that enlarges the image you see, when I was looking at an image of a static plane at an air show with someone elses camera, (an expensive slr), the plane looked as though it was enlarged, where as in my camera it looked as though it was further away than it actualy was,I know people might say thats the difference in the price of cameras, this is probably true, but is there a magnifier or something to attach to the viewfinder?if not- why not? or is there a device to attach to the lcd viewer to avoid sunlight on the screen?not that this is much of a problem this year, as a waterproof cover would be more practical —- thanks in advance
I think you need to adjust the diopter adjustment on the eye piece / viewfinder. If it is adjusted wrong things will look small in the view finder.
This is a common mistake.
The older SLR have very large ground glass in the view finder. That’s because the ground glass represents the size of film / ccd. There’s no getting around it.
You can try something like this:

But again they are not really design to magnify the viewfinder but LCD.
Good Luck.

Compare Digital Cameras Online
It’s difficult to choose the perfect digital camera for you, particularly if you don’t know too much about them. First there’s the size to consider, the difference between a small compact digital that can fit in your pocket or purse, and a larger SLR model is immense. Then you have to choose between the many different brands on the market, and the price of course is always a major deciding factor when making a purchase.
It can be a good idea to select a model by identifying just what it is you want your camera to be able to do. If you just want to take holiday snaps and family photos then a simple point and shoot will suffice, however if you are really interested in photography then the features included with the model are going to be much more important. Here are some simple tips to point you in the right direction and help you choose a digital camera that will suit your needs and lifestyle.
One of the main points you need to look at when you compare digital cameras is what features are included. A large viewfinder, zoom lens, built-in camcorders, continuous shooting, a LCD that can tilt or swivel, a weather proof body, the number of frames per second for fast shooting, and video recording are all options to look out for.
There are two types of zoom lens with digital cameras, which type you choose will depend on whether you are taking family snaps or want some great shots of wildlife without getting too close, and how you will view them, online or printed out. Both optical and digital zoom lenses allow close-ups of a distant subject; they just achieve it by different methods. Optical zoom magnifies the picture before the shot is taken, whilst the digital zoom artificially magnifies the image by enlarging the pixel area, however this can result in a loss of resolution. When comparing models you should always pay particular attention to the optical zoom.
The resolution is down to the number of pixels that make up a photo, high resolution cameras shoot and print highly detailed photographs and if you will be editing photos and want to keep the quality and sharpness then opt for a high number of mega-pixels. If all your photos will be online or sent via email, then a low number of mega-pixels can produce good enough quality images and are cheaper to buy.
Ensure the camera has an effective LCD, the larger the screen the easier it is to compose and review images before shooting. Some digital cameras now come without an optical viewfinder, whilst the LCD screen is great for letting you view an image as you take it, look at photos already taken, and play back videos, some people prefer a viewfinder as it sets a frame for the photo. Anti-glare screens are best for buyers who plan on shooting a lot of photos outdoors, and if you will be traversing through rough terrain it’s advised you opt for a scratch resistant screen.
When shopping, either in the high street or online, it pays to check what comes with the camera. The same model may be more expensive in a particular store, but the difference in price might be worth paying if they are providing extras that other stores may not, such as a camera bag, a big enough memory card to hold a sufficient number of photos, and rechargeable batteries and charger.
Check out how long the battery will last, and ensure it is rechargeable. The last thing you want to do is spend money on batteries every time they expire, rechargeable batteries can be used again and again and are much more environmentally friendly into the bargain. Your camera should come with a battery charger that can be plugged into the mains for convenience. Buy canon cameras online and get a better price than any high street store can offer.
If you are inexperienced about cameras then don’t choose anything too complicated to start with. Lots of manual features and settings will just confuse and frustrate you and your camera may end up being left at home instead of out and about with you ready for that photo opportunity. There are some great point and shoot digital cameras on the market that are very easy to use as they practically do everything for you, and won’t dig too deep a hole in your pocket. Search for digital cameras online and you’ll also get great savings.
