Canon AE-1 problems help?
I have a Canon AE-1 that I bought back in June of this year. I got it on Etsy.com in mint, pristine condition. It worked fine and everything, but just today when I went to go use it the shutter would not click. I put the lever back, pressed the shutter button and nothing. It almost feels like it is locked. I also cannot see anything out of the viewfinder with the lens cap off. It is completely black with no dust though. I’ve never dropped this camera. Any ideas?
How do I unlock the mirror myself? there are no camera shops in my area.
When I took the lens off nothing looked stuck. It looked perfect. No dust, no nothing.
When I press the shutter down I see a blinking M.
Is there film in the camera? If so, has it reached the end of the roll? If so, try rewinding the film and taking it out (I’m assuming you know how to do this, but since everyone does digital nowadays you never know). Then see if the film advance lever can be coc*ked and the shutter fired.
Does the battery work? The shutter won’t fire without the battery.
If none of this works, take the lens off and see if the mirror is stuck in the up position.
I don’t have an AE-1, but I’m assuming it doesn’t have mirror lock-up. If it does, then that would be the reason why
