Yinyan BY-240SD Flash?

Hello,

I was recently given quite a bit of photography equipment by a friend, who’s dad moved and left it behind. In the piles, I have come across a Yinyan BY-240SD AC Umbrella Slave Flash, and what I can only assume is the stand, mount for the flash, and the umbrella that goes with it. I believe that I got it assembled, but am having a really hard time figuring out how to get it to trigger, as it did not come with any kind of cord to go to my camera, and the mount doesn’t seem to have any sort of input on it. Am I missing something? Or is there something missing that I could possibly purchase?

I don’t want all of this cool stuff to go to waste, and I am very new any kind of artificial lighting!

I just did a google search on that flash, but all I could find were forum threads bemoaning that it was a cheap piece of you-know-what, or webpages full of Chinese (?) characters.

I am guessing it might be an optical slave flash, i.e. it will be triggered by seeing another flash. If it is that cheap and basic, I doubt it could be triggered via any other remote mechanism, but I could be wrong.

Try the optical slave idea, it is the most likely answer, I think.

Impressions of the Channel Islands
2011-06-09 The Channel Islands, about 25 miles off the coast of Malibu and Santa Barbara, are a naturalist’s dream. The isolation of the islands’ lush hillsides, underwater caves and sandy coves has resulted in animal and plant species found nowhere else in the world.
