How does the camera communicate with the light source inside a softbox, in a typical studio usage scenario ?
What if the camera has no wireless capability ? Is a softbox typically used as a primary/single light source or in combination with a camera-mounted flash (for example).
Generally it is wireless, though you could use a PC cord.
Manufacturers like Pocket Wizards build a transmitter that will fit in the camera’s hot shoe.
You also get a PW receiver that is connected to the strobe in the softbox.
When you press the shutter release to take a picture, the PW trigger sends a signal to the PW receiver that sets of the flash.
