It is a perfect lens for what you want to do.
You just need a tripod and let your cameras meter decide the correct exposure. Take a few shots and then make changes in the aperture until you get the perfect exposure.
If the image is still too dark, raise the ISO setting on the camera to raise the sensitivity of the sensor.
