how will my canon 7d react with a lexar 32gb compact flash memory card (233x)?
i am a beginner with photography.. will 32 gb be enough for my canon 7d? i dont have enough money to purchase a 64gb sandisk extreme pro..or a 32 gb extreme pro for that matter, sandisk is much more expensive. any advice? and how would a lexar 32 gb react with my camera? will it take good pictures and video? how many pictures do you think it can it hold?
The card will work just fine in the 7D. But are you sure you need such a large card? 32GB may be far more than you really need. I say this because I shoot 8GB and 16GB cards (Lexar and SanDisk) with my 7D and 5D Mark II. I shoot RAW at maximum resolution at most formal events but JPEG for sports or informal family events and vacations. Even at maximum resolution, I’m able to get no less than 230 raw images on the 8GB cards or 500 raw images on the 16GB cards. When I shoot JPEG, the 8GB cards still hold well over 1000 images. 16GB cards obviously hold many more images than that. The point lurking here is that unless you need to be able to store 1000 RAW images on one card, there is little point in buying such a large card. There are certainly some professional photographers who do use such large cards but again, these are people who may actually shoot 3000 images at a single event. Most however, will choose to shoot multiple cards rather than risk putting all their eggs in one basket with just one card that could fail and take all their work with it.
Another issue is the speed of the card. That large Lexar is certainly a good card and will work just fine in your 7D as I mentioned earlier. While I’m not suggesting you’ll notice a substantial distance in card speed while shooting, you will notice a difference when downloading images to your computer if you really do fill up a 32GB card. I have the 600x Lexar cards and it takes a several minutes to download 16GB of data from cards that are nearly three times faster than the card you are considering.
