German SLR I Camera Guide: Leaf Shutter Models v. 1 (Historical Camera Guides) … |
What are some lenses that a beginning photographer should have in his or her collection?
I am a beginning photographer interested in having a pretty diverse collection of lenses. I have a 1500-2000 dollar budget at the moment. The Nikon D60 gold package with 18-55mm VR lens and a 55-200mm VR lens will cost me about 750. The tripod/ballhead, wireless shutter remote, and memory card will cost me about 250 dollars, so that leaves me with 500-1000 to spend on lenses. If anyone has any suggestions or alternate packages/cameras than above, I’d like to know. I’m mainly interested in lenses, though.
With good quality lenses from 18-200, you’ve got it covered. I’d also recommend:
- Prime lens with a very low min aperture. The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 is a must have; it’s only $100 and GREAT for portraits!
- Macro lens. The Tamron 90mm f/2.8 is a 1:1 macro, has a great minimum aperture, and just over $450.
That should give you lots to play around with, and just crosses $550. With the extra money, I’d get an external flash and diffuser. Very useful for low-light photography. Then you should be all set for a long, long time.
Good luck!
