What size portraits do you (photographer) offer and where do you print?
I use a canon 40D output if 3:2
so is it ok that I offer sizes that you can get from that ratio with the cropping taking place? Or will people not like that because 5×7 and 8×10 aren’t in there? I was going put other sizes available by request and then I can show them this is what an 8×10 will look like (because some cropping takes place)
Also can someone recommend a high quality lab to print online? I came across one called Pro DPI, has anyone heard of them or used them?
Turn around time is not as important as quality.
I printed at a local camera shop once and the picture was so dark nothing at all like I viewed it on or off my camera.

If you’re using a pro service you should get notified if you’re exceeding the limits of the file when printing. What I mean by that is if you print from your 40D to a size that your megapixel count won’t be able to sustain (30×20 or larger) then you should get a notification. I’d offer anything your service can offer under that. The more choices you have the less someone has to look elsewhere for the choice they want. You want the customer to feel that they need to choose between the many choices that you offer, not between you and someone else. As fhotoace pointed out, leave room in camera when you take the shot so that you can crop. In fact, you’ll probably want to practice just that a bit.

Just to clarify, no they are not. All three sizes are different aspect ratios.
