what is the best shutter speed to have on my fujifilm finepix s2800hd when taking a water shot.?
and how do i do it? i am very new to my camera and im struggling to get to grips with it.
I see your camera has full manual control & can do up to an 8 sec exposure.
If you want to blur the motion of water, you need a long exposure (1/2 sec or longer), if you want to freeze motion, you need a short shutter speed or to use flash.
If you want long exposures during daytime, you going to get over exposure of the image. You need a neutral density filter on the lens to cut down the light. The problem is, your camera doesn’t have a thread on the front of the lens, so you cannot attach a filter. You could possible get around this by holding a ND or welding filter against the lens, but this is likely to cause the camera to move a bit & this will ruin the image – in any case you’d need a tripod.
Similarly, to get good water drop shots (freezing motion) a flash is the best option – off camera flash is better. Unfortunately, your camera doesn’t have a hot shoe to enable you to trigger an off camera flash.
