How do i remove the film from my 35mm Canon AE-1 camera? without exposing the film?

I’m in a photography class that requires me to use up two rolls of film BY TOMORROW. But i cant get the first one out..It’s not winding up into the canister. And i don’t have an ‘R’ button on the bottom of my camera so i have no idea what button i’m supposed to press. And no one else i ask seems to know either. I know i’m supposed to lift the little knob at the top and turn it in the direction of the arrow..but the film doesnt seem to be moving at all.. PLEASE HELP.

You do have at least one button at the bottom. Press all of them fully, hard. Start rewinding. It will be loose at first, then it’ll tighten and get tighter then it will suddenly give and become loose again. If you are perceptive enough, you’ll feel the can’s slot opening hitting the camera chamber inside as you turn the lever. That’s your signal to open the back door. If you are unsure if the film has all returned to the can, just keep on winding for the next five minutes. They should all be there inside after that. Just keep a steady pace while winding, not too slow, not too fast. Two or three revolutions per second will do.

How to make a Matchox Pinhole Camera – Eduard Piel

The Benefits of a Digital Camera

Digital cameras have allowed those who love taking pictures more freedom then more conventional film loaded cameras have. It has a level of flexibility that benefits even the most novice of photographers allowing them to progress at their own pace without worrying about wasting rolls of film. That’s probably the biggest advantage of a digital camera; the ability to take as many pictures as you can fit into the cameras memory and save, store, retrieve, and print out only the ones you want. This gives you a far greater learning curve because you can simply delete those photos that don’t turn out quite like you wanted them too. Another cool benefit of these types of cameras is the ability to make short videos. While the quality may not be as good as you get with a video camera it does add to the fun you can have with one. Digital cameras are also very portable and are easy to carry from place to place. You can choose from a variety of different carrying cases that keep your camera safe from outside dangers. Another thing you need not worry about is running out of film or keeping track of which film canister needs to be developed. Simply carrying extra memory sticks or flash cards allows you to take an unlimited amount of pictures without any worries. These cameras also come with a wide range of features that make picture taking a breeze. Most come with digital zoom lenses that allow you to zoom in on far away subjects. You’ll also find features that allow you to choose the proper settings for a variety of picture taking opportunities such as dawn/dusk mode, portrait mode, landscape mode, fireworks mode, and others. This gives you the ability to take great pictures in any situation without worrying about choosing the proper settings. For those just getting into or thinking about photography as a hobby then the benefits of a digital camera outweigh those of a more conventional camera. It gives you the flexibility and freedom to learn how to take great pictures without worrying about wasting time, money, and energy on buying and developing film only to be disappointed in the results.
