TAMRON SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD as opposed to the same lens with VC option (just released)?
I can get a used copy of the TAMRON SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD, babied, registered and under warranty w/ Tamron for 4 more years for $345 …OR….buy from Beach Camera the TAMRON SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC LD (VC being the only difference) for $575 after $25 Tamron rebate. My question….practically speaking, at no flash, indoor lower light photography, is the lack of vibration control an issue? I’ve even read in some reviews the IQ of the non VC copy being slightly better (?). Basically, I’m looking at about $230 dollars here. Worth it? Would love input from someone knowledgeable on this lens
I have the 17-50 NON-VC version on my Canon 40d. It’s a great little lens. Sharp, but noisy AF. Very noisy!! Sounds cheap actually. But one of my sharper lenses.
Now on to your question. I wish I had VC, honestly. It would make all the difference. It depends on your style. I can honbestly tell you 2.8 is not fast enough for low-light interior pictures.. My camera wnats to add flash and bump ISO to 1,000 under these conditions. And this is the interior of my house at night!! Not exaclty super dim r anythign. Go for the VC.
If its outdoor shooting no difference in IQ. NONE. Guaranteed. Also, if low-light is what you want neither VC or mine, is ideal. You need fast lens. 2.8 is moderate.
