PLEASE HELP ME! A-level photography?

I have decided to take photography as one of my options for sixth form next year, and just wondered if anyone could help me!

I definitely need a new camera….
Anyway I would really appreciate it if someone who has done the course would take the time to answer my questions….

1. SLR or digital camera? <--- what is the difference and which is best? (I want to be able to do lots of different techniques and varied shots)

2. What should I include in my portfolio? (It will be looked at so I can gain entry onto the course)]

3. Can anyone explain a few basic, yet effective tecnhiques that I could use for my portfolio pictures?

Thank you :D

SLR or digital camera? <--- what is the difference and which is best? - the difference is one uses film and the other uses a memory card, film is scanned then it is digital, best depends on what you want, for me in 35mm best in digital fulll format, in medium and large its film

What should I include in my portfolio? 8-12 strong images of a simalar theme

Can anyone explain a few basic, yet effective tecnhiques that I could use for my portfolio pictures? yes many can explain them, do they hav the time or typing spped proberly not,

- goto youtube, look up - photography techniques,

- look at lots of images, find some you like then link here perhaps and ask how they were made

- look up, side lighting, back lighting, rembrandt lighting, portrait lighting, product lighting, et cetera and et ceteras
