I’ve always wanted to be A photographer for the basketball.
My dream is to work at madison square garden taking pictures of knicks games.
The problem is, I don’t know how to go about that. I have A couple questions like.

How can I become A photographer for sports?
Start by getting as good camera as you can afford that will take pictures in natural light with considerable detail and give you full manual control.
Start taking pictures of sports in considerably less competative conditions and try selling them to participants and local papers and TV stations – high school and college formal events, neighborhood youth organization games.
Talk to each professional and college team in your area and find out what it takes to get a floor or field pass to be on the sidelines. In some cases it takes just a request, in some cases there is a small fee (like $25), in some cases the only way to get there is authorization from an organization that will possibly use your pictures (press pass)
what do I need to do to become A photogapher for madison square garden? When you get good enough (see above) you may have a chance. Madison Square Garden does not hire the photogs you see working the games (or perhaps one for PR photos) they are either working for media or have a record as free lance and are assigned.
would I have to go to college for photography?
No, although it wouldn’t hurt to take community college courses when available. If you are subscribing to photography magazines (and if not, why not), you will find ads for photography short courses to improve your practice in particular areas – like sports, or portrait, or architecture, etc.
